Trini and Zack are hanging out at the Juice Bar when Curtis walks in.  Curtis asks them if they are going to the Jazz Festival the following day.  Zack suggests that Curtis play his trumpet, but Curtis can't because his trumpet is somewhere between St. Louis and Angel Grove.  Zack tells Curtis that he will loan him his uncle's trumpet, with Curtis' promise that he will take good care of it, as his uncle was a famous musician.  Watching, Lord Zedd get the idea to cash a spell on the trumpet, that will cause the Rangers to battle previously defeated monsters, who are not there.  Once exhausted, Lord Zedd will send down a real monster.

The following day, Zack, Kimberly, and Billy are walking through the park, headed for the Jazz Festival.  They run into Bulk & Skull.  Bulk & Skull have another scheme on finding the identities.  Kimberly, Billy, and Zack continue on their way, until they are attack by putties.  While Billy, Zack, and Kimberly are fighting putties, one putty places a spell on the trumpet Zack had laid on the ground.  After the putties vanish, Kimberly notes the attack wasn't random, but they have to get to the festival.  Meanwhile, at the Juice Bar, Curtis is worried that Zack won't make it with the trumpet.  Trini and Jason reassured him that Zack will make it.  Moments later, Zack, Billy, and Kimberly arrive.  Zack gives Curtis the trumpet and the jazz festival begins.  As Curtis plays, the trumpet casts it's spell on Kimberly, Billy, Trini, Zack, and Jason.  After the festival, Billy, Trini, Jason, Kimberly, and Zack tell Curtis what a great job he did.  Curtis then realizes that the trumpet is gone.  Later, Trini, Jason, Kimberly, Zack, and Billy go for a walk through the park.  Zack is still upset over the missing trumpet, although his friends try to cheer him up.  They stopped in their tracks when they notice a monster they had already defeated.  Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy, and Trini morph.  Several more previously defeated monsters appeared and soon the Rangers are surrounded by eight monsters.  Elsewhere, Bulk latest idea to identify the Rangers, is to get the Rangers' footprints and compare them to the citizens of Angel Grove.  Bulk & Skull go to where the Power Rangers were last seen and there are plenty of footprints.  Bulk excitedly finds some footprints and tells Skull to bring the cement.  Going downhill, Skull bring the wheelbarrow of cement and manages to splash plenty onto Bulk.

The Rangers start to battle the imaginary monsters.  Alpha 5 and Zordon check in on the Rangers.  Alpha 5 confirms that there are no monsters and Zordon tells Alpha 5 that the Rangers are under a spell.  Bulk & Skull also spot the Rangers - although they are little confused as to what the Rangers are doing.  Zordon has Alpha 5 teleport the Rangers to the command center.  Bulk & Skull watch the Rangers vanish and then excitedly race to where the footprints are.  Jason, Zack, Billy, Kimberly, and Trini are confused on why they had been teleported to the command center with so many monsters in Angel Grove.  Zordon has them look into the viewing globe - which shows Trumpet Top.  Zordon tells the Rangers that Trumpet Top has been made out of Zack's trumpet, and it has cast a spell on them, causing them to see monsters which are not there.  The only way to break the spell is to defeat Trumpet Top.  The Rangers morph back into action.  Lord Zedd has made Trumpet Top larger.  The Rangers call for their zords and form the megazord.  In the zord, the Rangers battle Trumpet Top and eventually destroy him.

Trini, Jason, Zack, Kimberly, and Billy are hanging out at the Juice Bar, when Curtis walks in, all dejected.  Curtis is still upset over the missing trumpet.  Billy passes down the trumpet and Trini gives it to Curtis, who is thrilled to have the trumpet back.  Bulk & Skull walk in with a large cement block of footprints.  Bulk & Skull demand that everyone line up at the bar, and they are going to match up footprints.  Zack suggests to Richie that he play some tunes.  Richie turns on the radio and everyone storms over to the dance floor.  Bulk & Skull managed to hold the cement block.  Skull gives Bulk a pat on the back and Bulk drops the cement block, destroying the footprints.  Bulk & Skull are upset as Kimberly tells them maybe it's better they don't know who the Power Rangers are.  Zack tells them it's nothing to go to pieces about and Jason, Curtis, Trini, Kimberly, Billy, and Zack laugh.
